Let's start with this: it will allow us to get rid of our frustration right away. In fact, we should differentiate between two interfaces: that of Avast, the solution as a whole, and that of Avast Free Antivirus, the "freemium" version. The interface of Avast Free Antivirus always puts us in a dilemma, as it is as successful on some sides as it is frustrating and even infuriating on others. In terms of false positives, the record is excellent: only 1 false alert at AV Comparatives, while AV Test detects none, on all tested cases: scanning, installing and running software, copying files and web browsing. Its score is quite close to BitDefender, GData and Avira. Avast Free Antivirus scores very well in all three aspects: 93.4% in offline detection, 96.3% in online detection and 99.9% in protection. In this test, AV Comparatives distinguishes between offline and online detection and online protection, because although malware may not be detected during the scan, it is still blocked by heuristics or behavioural analysis, and that is what counts in the end. In the malware protection test, Avast stands out with the highest score of Advanced+. So there is no real infection, but still a potential bad choice. Avast Free Antivirus scores 99.9% here, and the one sample that was not blocked automatically is a bit in-between: it is detected as potentially dangerous, leaving it up to the user to remove. The latter also uses "live" samples, and evaluates the number of samples blocked on 736 threats. The latest AV Comparatives tests are a little older: May 2021 for malware protection and March 2021 for the "Real world" test. On the other hand, despite this always annoying "salesman" side, there is a robust engine, a rather successful user interface and fairly comprehensive features for a free antivirus. And we'll say it right away because the suspense is non-existent anyway: this hasn't changed at all with the latest updates of the free antivirus. a good thing that Avira has been able to considerably strengthen its free offer over the years, even if it has been criticized for its pronounced tendency to sell its Premium Security version at every level. Maybe also because somewhere along the line it was reassuring when it spoke to the user. Of the three "classic" free antivirus products, of which there are really only two left since the merger between Avast and AVG, it has always been the most popular with the general public, perhaps because it was the simplest and most affordable, while Avira was more popular with the more technophile and experienced. It would almost be interesting to evaluate the percentage of Avast users who use it after installing it during a family visit. It's always there, and almost in spite of itself, by virtue of being installed on all the PCs of relatives who needed antivirus software, when said relatives had no desire to opt for a paid solution.

HDClone is a perfect tool for backups and copies of entire software or operating system installations. HDClone (available in different editions) creates physical or logical copies (clones) and file images of hard disks and other mass storage media. The backup images can also be mounted as a virtual drive, which can be very useful for retrieving separate files: you can also restore single files or folders, but backup only the full drive C. (The free part is important, I know I can pay for Acronis True Image.) " The seasons have a lot to do with it," he says. Gjerde notes that other species of crab lack the depth of flavor and delicate texture of blue crabs. Many restaurants use cheaper pasteurized crab from Asia for their dishes. The lazy might prefer larger Dungeness crabs from the West Coast, which are much larger and easier to eat. " They are superior to any other crab in my opinion." He knows his crabs: " Blue crab is really unlike any other crab in the world, thanks to the growing conditions, and the type of estuary we have here," he says. Gjerde is the first Baltimore chef to win the James Beard Award for Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic, and was raised in Baltimore. " Blue crab is part of the holy trinity of Maryland seafood, made up of oysters, rockfish, and blue crab," says chef Spike Gjerde of Baltimore ’ s Woodberry Kitchen. According to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, approximately 50 percent of the country’ s blue crab harvest comes from Maryland waters.Īnd they are an essential part of the region’ s culinary heritage. As a result, in Maryland, steamed is usually the only option on offer.īlue crabs can be found in waters as far north as Nova Scotia and as far south as Uruguay, but the crustacean's strongest association has always been with Maryland. (Boiling proponents argue that steaming pushes the internal temperature too high and dries out the flesh.) But oddly enough, Marylanders complain that the seasoned boiling water makes the crab taste too evenly seasoned - they prefer the variety in heat and seasoning that comes from tasting the spice that rubs on to the crabmeat from their fingers. Marylanders will tell you that boiling makes the crabmeat wet, rather than just moist. Marylanders prepare hard shells and other seafood by steaming them, rather than the boiling that is common along the rest of the East Coast and Louisiana. And not just any crabs: We’re talking about the delicate, sweet blue crab bounty of the Chesapeake Bay, whose Latin name Callinectes sapidus means "beautiful swimmer." There are few things that get Marylanders more excited than tearing into a bushel of red-shelled beauties encrusted with crab seasoning, or enjoying the delicacy of a fried soft shell, accompanied by an ice cold Natty Boh. Summers in Maryland aren’t summer without crabs. VW incorporated other non-structural parts from the Mk4 as well, such as fender repeaters, grille, side mirror caps, etc. Changes to the rear included a redesigned hatch, which moved the number plate tub to a restyled rear bumper, in addition to a handle and larger VW emblem more closely resembling the rear of a Mk4 Golf. Instead, they facelifted the front bumper, fenders, hood, and headlights of the Mk3 Golf Cabrio to resemble the styling of the Mk4 Golf (colloquially referred to as the Mk3.5). The Mk4 Golf platform remained to be widely used in the VW Group much after its demise in 2004 (2006 for the Bora and Variant models) and the Polo Mk5 shares many suspension and electrical components, and so does the Volkswagen Up/Škoda Citigo/Seat Mii.Īs with the Mk2 Golf, Volkswagen did not make a convertible version of the Mk4 Golf. The Mk4 Golf was praised for its quality improvements, but was criticised for its handling characteristics, and was compared with the Mk1 Ford Focus of the time, which had an independent rear suspension in the 2WD models, unlike the Mk4 which had a torsion beam rear axle setup in the 2WD models, the handling was categorised as boat like. It was also one of the very first Golfs to come with Xenon headlamps (optional) and rain sensing wipers at the end of its manufacturing in Europe, and along with this a full 12 year anti-corrosion warranty, which was rarely seen at this time. The Mk4 GTI is looked down upon because of this and VW restored the GTI's reputation as a sporting hatch with the 25th Anniversary edition, and the Mk5 Golf that followed it. As part of VW's move upmarket, the firm down played the sportiness of the hatchback in favour of comfort. This version of the Golf was the only version to do away with the GTD nameplate - there were Petrol and Diesel versions of the GTI, which featured slightly lowered suspension, the 1.8T or the 1.9 TDI (PD 150) and premium interior features like Climatronic, full leather, and wood trims, however it was not as sporty as the preceding generations of the GTI. This went on to be used in the R32 model in 2003 - 2004. This featured a totally revised rear axle and rear floor pan, which was shared with the Audi TT 8N. PD115 (then replaced by the PD130) and the PD150 Engines, (Codes: AJM/ASZ/ARL) and with the VR6 powered models. This generation of the Golf brought in the Haldex 4 Wheel Drive system, which was previously only available on Audi products, the system was used with the 1.9TDI Sport Engines, i.e. In fact, the quality of the Golf was comparable with the Audi A3, which was the first car based on this floor pan when it was launched a year earlier, but cost considerably more than most of its competitors. However, manufacturing continued in South America, Mexico and China for developing markets until 2014.Īs with the larger Passat, launched a year earlier, the MK4 Golf helped form a part of Volkswagen's strategy of moving its products upmarket to plug a gap between mainstream economy cars and premium cars, with SEAT and Škoda, two other VW Group owned marques, poised to fill the gap below the new Golf. It was replaced in 2003 by the Volkswagen Golf Mk5 in European markets. The Mk4 was a deliberate attempt to take the Volkswagen Golf series further upmarket, with a high-quality interior and higher equipment levels. Launched in October 1997 for the 1998 model year, it was the best selling car in Europe in 2001 (though it slipped to second place, behind the Peugeot 206, in 2002). The Volkswagen Golf Mk4 (or VW Type 1J) is a compact car, the fourth generation of the Volkswagen Golf and the successor to the Volkswagen Golf Mk3. 1.9 L EA180 TDI I4 (Verteilerpumpe - VE). also sonar and cakewalk were there as well. Many do not realize how useful Reaper is for video editing. I recently added a new template with the video window on the interface screen because I started editing HD video combined with separately recorded multi-tracked audio for Youtube use. It is useful to check out some of the others to get an idea of what can be done. The problem is wading through all those other user suggestions it's easier to simply make your own. The Cockos Reaper forums are chock full of templates and user "Skins" that change the look and feel of the program. If you're doing basic audio recording it only takes a few minutes to set up a template to use and save for further work. (That's why the "Guitar Hero" game exists.) It's not difficult to use, but the world is full of folks who are looking for instant gratification without putting in the work. It's such an adaptable program that new users are disappointed to find it's not a "Open the program and start working" DAW. So when the first consumer grade PC sound card came out that allowed full duplex recording (Gravis Ultrasound) I spent a summer between computer science semesters banging this thing out.Ĭlick to expand.Probably the single most often cited complaint for new users of Reaper is that they need to set up the initial work environment to accommodate the exact methodology for how they will use it. Having used the Fostex type 4 track recorders at home in the late 80s and having an interest in computers/programming I had always wanted to create an affordable DAW, as there really wasn't any such thing available for PC at that time. Oh it's unlikely anyone here has heard of it: MRGUS. MRGUS is still floating around the internet if you have a 25 year old PC rig with an Ultrasound to try it on For many years I wanted to get back to developing my own DAW but about 10 years ago I pretty much gave up on it as what is the point when you have so many polished DAWs around already and it would probably take you at least 10 years to even catch up to where they are at in 2020. I always wanted to continue development but got busy with school and then a career where I pretty much write the same code a DAW uses, but it runs the audio engine in video games. So it was basically a 14-track Fostex type deal. The only controls were pan and volume per track. It could play 14 44.1 kHz tracks back at once though while recording. Obviously it was extremely crude compared to what we have available now, but hey, there was probably nothing better available at the price point at the time It could only record 8-bit due to hardware limitations. So when the first consumer grade PC sound card came out that allowed full duplex recording (Gravis Ultrasound) I spent a summer between computer science semesters banging this thing out. So what is everyone's preferred DAW - and have you ever made the switch to a different DAW at any point in your time as a mix engineer?Ĭlick to expand.Oh it's unlikely anyone here has heard of it: MRGUS. Also it is pretty cool just having my hardware sync and work harmoniously with the software with no really additional setup (I love using DAW mode on the mixer to mix my track using the the board as opposed to the mouse/keyboard). I am going to miss some of the Virtual Instruments - but honestly I find StudioOne is just a better mixing experience overall, and I like the ability to take my Windows based demo projects easily over to my Mac based studio with no issues and things like the Gain Envelope and Scene saving of version 5 look to be workflow game changers for me. I am likely going to be upgrading to version 5 of StudioOne in the next couple of months, and am planning on doing a massive port of all my Logic projects over to StudioOne over the next couple of months. However - over the last couple of years I have been learning and recording exclusively with StudioOne Pro 4.5 - and the few times I have opened older projects in Logic X I am surprised at how clunky the Logic interface actually feels now. But I never found StudioOne to be a serious contender in comparison to my time with Logic. Now I have had various versions of StudioOne Artist over the last near decade or so - and have used them on my gaming PC to create various demos when I don't feel like sitting down in the main studio. For reference - I learned on GarageBand / Logic 7 Express and stuck with Logic (moving on to Pro at Logic 9) all the way until about 2 years ago when I purchased a StudioLive Series 3 mixer and got StudioOne Pro 4 with it. Trump’s star power would shatter turnout records. The five current or former governors still running won a combined 8 percent - less than what the retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson received, even after his campaign nearly unraveled in the weeks before the caucuses.Īfter months of watching vast crowds wait hours in line to fill gymnasiums, many Iowans thought Mr. With the top finishers a businessman who had never run for office and two first-term senators, governing experience evidently mattered little to Iowans. He ran an ad in which he spoke of “the free gift of Salvation offered to us by Jesus Christ.” And in the final debate before the caucuses, held Thursday in Des Moines, he notably referred to “Jesus Christ, who came down to earth and died for our sins.” Rubio aggressively tried to woo that constituency, too. Cruz, a pastor’s son, counted on Christian conservatives, Mr. Cruz - whose $19 million war chest is the most money of any Republican candidate - find success with that state’s more secular voters, it would signal that he has the potential to unite a wider Republican electorate. Trump, his aura of invincibility gone, could prove vulnerable there as well. Cruz has trailed well behind in recent New Hampshire polls, but Mr. 20 and has an evangelical population closer in size to Iowa’s. Cruz now is whether to compete aggressively in New Hampshire, which votes next Tuesday, or divide his time between there and the next battleground, South Carolina, which holds its primary on Feb. Trump’s improvisational performances, by contrast, may have come away entertained, but not enough of them seemed persuaded that he was presidential. The throngs of Iowans who came to see Mr. He built an extensive organization and spent months visiting each of Iowa’s 99 counties. Cruz also was a validation of the Iowa tradition that success here comes from intensive retail campaigning. (Each ran again this year but failed to earn significant backing.) When Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum won the Iowa caucuses in 20, respectively, they did so without formidable opposition for those voters. Rubio and Ben Carson, the spiritually minded retired neurosurgeon, among others. That achievement was even more remarkable given the competition Mr. Cruz won about a third of the evangelical vote. Cruz’s fervent appeal to Christian values in winning over Iowa’s evangelical voters, who made up nearly two-thirds of those who did show up to caucus. Trump’s celebrity-fueled airplane hangar rallies proved no match for Mr. “We will go on to get the Republican nomination, and we will go on to easily beat Hillary or Bernie or whoever the hell they throw out there.” Trump unconvincingly told a crowd of Iowans in West Des Moines. I love you people,” a subdued-sounding Mr. Trump paid the price for building only a rudimentary political organization in the state: The brew of energy and anger powering his candidacy did not fully translate into votes. But the turnout was not enough to deliver him a win, even though 46 percent of those who turned out were participating in a Republican caucus for the first time. Trump’s success had been expected to hinge on whether he could mobilize his supporters. Turnout was about 185,000, a record, according to Edison Research, which conducted entrance polls at precincts across the state. Rubio’s mix of conservatives and pragmatic Republicans hungry for victory. Trump’s blue-collar political newcomers and Mr. Cruz’s evangelicals and Tea Party adherents, Mr. The close race illustrated just how turbulent the Republican race may be, with the vote fragmenting between Mr. Tonight is a victory for courageous conservatives all across Iowa and our great nation.” “Tonight is a victory for the grass roots. To do this, the NAT gateway must forward the corresponding TCP port to the mGuard (see "Listen for incoming VPN connections, which are encapsulated" on page 317). The mGuard may receive VPN connections encapsulated in TCP, even when it is positioned behind a NAT gateway in the network and thus cannot be reached by the VPN peer under its primary external IP address. TCP encapsulation avoids these problems because the packets belonging to the relevant VPN connection are encapsulated in TCP packets, i.e., they are hidden so that only TCP packets appear for the network infrastructure. Without this encapsulation, under certain circumstances it is possible for VPN connections that important data packets belonging to the VPN connection may not be correctly transmitted due to interconnected NAT routers, firewalls or proxy servers, for example.įirewalls, for example, may be set up to prevent any data packets of the UDP protocol from passing through or (incorrectly implemented) NAT routers may not manage the port numbers correctly for UDP packets. This function is used to encapsulate data packets to be transmitted via a VPN connection in TCP packets. When the function is deactivated, all log entries will be archived. If only log entries generated for failed connection attempts are to be archived, activate the function. A snapshot provides your supplier's support team with additional options for more efficient troubleshooting than would be possible without archiving.Īrchive diagnostic messages only upon failure They can be downloaded as part of the support snapshot ( Hardware menu item). – Archived log entries are not affected by a restart. This may be the case if the following conditions apply: If the option of diagnosing VPN connection problems using the mGuard logging function is too impractical or insufficient, select this option. If it is sufficient, you can deactivate the function at this point. This option for error diagnostics is used as standard. If errors occur when establishing VPN connections, the mGuard logging function can be used to find the source of the error based on corresponding entries (see Logging > Browse Local Logs menu item). In the case of “hub and spoke”, 1:1 NAT of the peer is not supported.Īrchive diagnostic messages for VPN connections In this case, it is recommended that the local mGuard consults CA certificates for the authentication of peers (see "Authentication" on page 342). With a star VPN connection topology, mGuard peers can also exchange data with one another. |
